Laney and the Boys!

This past weekend we traveled to Columbia to celebrate Sawyer’s first birthday. Laney was the only girl among a bunch of boys. She had a great time playing outside. We all enjoyed the wonderful South Carolina weather.

Laney has gotten to know this rug very well over the last few weeks.

This is our time out rug. Laney knows this is where she goes when she does not listen or starts to throw a tantrum. Most times after her 2 minutes is up she is ready to give mommy a hug and return to playing. Other times when I ask if she is ready to give mommy a hug she says “no” and so we stay for another 2 minutes.

While in timeout Laney called my name, so I turned to look at her and she stared right in my eyes and kicked the wall.
Sunday while in timeout Laney just laughed and laughed. She knows just what to do to push my buttons, and she is not even 2 yet.

Life with a toddler is very challenging, exhausting, and frustrating at times. Sometimes we take it day by day. Laney has such a strong personality and is very independent which makes for quite of few power struggles. Its a good thing she is so cute, funny, and sweet. You can’t stay mad at her for more than a split second.

This weekend was the perfect balance of busy and lazy. After an entire week of being sick, Laney was finally back to her normal self. We spent a lot of family time cleaning, organizing, and playing.

A Few Stories about Laney..

As Laney gets older she is starting to make so many connections about the world around her. Sometimes she cracks me up. I wanted to document a few stories so I don’t forget.

Laney is starting to say lots of letters and she starts her alphabet with a-b-o every time. Then other letters are randomly said next.
Laney and I were on a walk and I said ok, its time to turn around and Laney started turning around in her ballerina circles.
Laney usually loves taking a baths. She gets so comfortable in her bath and on several occasions she pooped in the tub. So the last week she has been passing gas in the tub and automatically thinks she is going to poop (she realized this is a bad thing) and freaks out. She stands up and says all done, all done and wants out immediately.
This past weekend Laney was sick and I had to take her temp several times. When I use the rectal thermometer, I sing The Wheels on the Bus to distract her. Last night she found the thermometer and decided to take her babies temp. She took it in the right stop and sang the wheels on the bus to her baby to distract her.
When I get off my cell phone Laney always asks “dada” and if it’s not Tyler I say no, not dada. Then she says ka ka (her name for Colleen). She is usually correct with one of these two guesses.

An Unwelcome Visitor

Last weekend we discovered a woodpecker had been visiting the Bathrick house. This is a picture of one of the holes he pecked into our wood siding. I would hear him pecking then I would run outside and yell at him. He would fly to a tree in our front yard, just taunting me. When I went back inside he would start again. Thankfully I found a company who are experts in getting rid of wildlife safely. As of this week we have not seen or heard from him.

Back in the Swing of Things!

Since we returned from Indiana, we have been trying to get back in the swing of things. After Santa visited this year, I realized my family room had been turned into a play room. So we decided to move our bedroom up stairs and turn our master bedroom (which was downstairs) into Laney’s playroom. I am still in the progress of putting the finishing touches on both rooms, but it has been a great switch. Other things that have kept us busy the last few weeks: We took Laney to the zoo, watched a lot of football, hosted Bunko, took a trip to IKEA, and took care of our sick Laney this weekend. It seemed much harder to get back into our normal routine after this break for some reason. This 3 day weekend is just what I needed to rest up and get ready for another week.

Tantrum 21

There are so many new things about you this month. You make so many new connections and learn so many new words everyday.

Your tantrums are BACK!! You visit your timeout rug much more frequently this month.
You LOVE to dance and you really have some moves. You love to have dance parties at home and you love to dance at school.
You say so many words, I know I am not going to get them all but these are my favorites. Co Co for uncle Coley, medicine, onion, clothes, mail, you love to say ok and alright, coke, bus, gas, rock, IU, one, two, three, and, a,b,c.
You love to play in your new playroom. You go in and out of your tent, have tea parties, take such good care of your babies, and draw on your easel.
You still love Barney, but you also have a new love- Elmo. You love to watch his videos and sing the Elmo song.
Since we got back from Indiana you are having a difficult time going to bed. You cry out for awhile before you will settle in.
You found mommy’s M&M’s in the refrigerator.
You help daddy get his coffee creamer.
You like to help mommy cook.
You are so stubborn and ornery, one example: daddy told you no and so in return you threw his Play station remote control (you already know how to hit his buttons).
You love to take the car keys and push the button to lock the door and make it beep.
You are very particular about the books I read you before bed. You picked a new book this month Llama Llama Red Pajama. In addition to your Bible and Curious George.

A Very Merry Christmas!

As tradition on our trips to South Bend for Christmas, we have 4 days of Christmas. We were crazy busy the entire time we were home, but enjoyed every minute of it.

Friday Night: Christmas Eve Eve- We celebrated Christmas at my Aunt Karen’s house. Laney was showered with toys and clothes and loved playing with all of them.

Christmas Eve: Tyler’s parents hosted Christmas Eve for his mom’s side of the family. I love their Christmas Eve traditions. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, games, and a visit from Santa. Laney loved getting to play with Aiden.

Christmas Morning: Laney woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was not quite ready to open presents. She was sitting on the floor saying no no no.

But then she saw the balloons that Santa left and her mood turned around. She had a great time opening her presents. It took awhile because as soon as she opened a gift she wanted to open and play with it.

Christmas Day Part 1: We first head to my Grandma Moore’s house. Laney was not in a very good mood and had an attitude most of the time. The little time she was there, she enjoyed playing with all the toys.

Christmas Day Part 2: We head to my mom’s house to celebrate with my siblings and step-sisters. Laney and Emily had a great time playing together. They ended the evening with a dance party to the Shrek sing along.

The Day after Christmas: We went to my dad’s house for dinner and presents. Laney and Shelby played, watched movies, and cuddled.

Then we returned to Tyler’s house for dessert. Laney loved the whipped cream.

This brings an end to our busy trip to South Bend. On our way home Laney was a bit fussy but did not get car sick. Instead Hoosier was sick. It was great to see our family and be back home. We always enjoy Christmas, even with our busy schedule.

The Tuesday before Christmas, Laney’s daycare had pajama day. In the afternoon they invited all the parents for hot chocolate and cookies. It is so much fun to watch Laney interact with her daycare friends. They have so much fun playing and dancing together all day.

Bathrick Family Christmas

When I was little, I had cousins who never woke up at their own home Christmas morning, I thought that was the worst thing possible. Fast forward and now Laney does not get to wake up in her own home Christmas morning. (I know this is probably harder on me than her). So I wanted to start a tradition that we will carry on every year. The Sunday before we leave for Indiana we will have Bathrick Family Christmas. Laney opened presents from Tyler and I. Santa will still visit Laney in Indiana but with only 3-4 presents. This morning we had Christmas morning. Sitting out were an art easel and teddy bear. Laney was pretty amused with these toys and was not really into opening any of her gifts. We had a wonderful breakfast, watched Barney’s Christmas and then all took a 2 hour nap (we were very tired from our busy weekend). It was nice to have a low key Christmas since the minute we arrive in Indiana, the craziness begins!!

Weekend in Myrtle Beach

Tyler’s law firm hosted a Christmas party in Myrtle Beach this weekend. Which worked out great, because, Laney and I were able to spend time with Lindsey, Will and Anne Marie. We left Thursday night and stopped in Columbia for dinner at San Jose (my favorite restaurant) and then arrived at our hotel in Myrtle Beach. Laney was not very fond of our hotel room. She did not like being confined to a little space, especially one her crib was located in. She kept wanting to get out. On Friday, Tyler was in meetings all day, which meant shopping time for the girls. We met up with Lindsey and Anne Marie and hit the outlet mall, Marshalls, Home Goods, and had lunch. I found some great deals for Laney. Lindsey and Nick watched Laney while we went to Tyler’s Christmas party. It was at a beautiful restaurant with great food. On Saturday Tyler, Laney, and I went to an aquarium and hit the outlet mall again, this time to buy for me. We were super busy, but enjoyed our mini-vacation.

Laney did enjoy the hotel phone and taking rides on the luggage carrier.

Too Sweet Twenty

Happy Twenty Months Laney!! Well, I am happy to say that in the past month your temper tantrums and biting have pretty much disappeared. You have become quite the comic and make daddy and I laugh everyday. As your teacher stated you “love attention.”

Nineteen to Twenty Month Stats:

You do so many new things everyday, it is hard to keep up with everything.

24 month clothes
New Words: please, outside, downstairs, yes, shirt, hop hop (for kangaroo and rabbit), mean mean, mommy sit, Santa, ho ho ho, cat, open, boot, inside, blue, green, red, milk, blankie, apple, get (to tell the dogs to go away), go, one-two, what, and this. (I am sure I am missing lots, but this is all I can think of).
You have started to acknowledge colors. Everything is blue to you right now but you can say several colors. We just ask you questions you can get right. “What color is mommy’s car? What color are Laney’s eyes?”
You loved visiting Santa. You get so excited when you see a picture of Santa. You say ho ho ho.
You continue to be mommy’s shadow and have to do everything I do. If I put boots on, you have to change your shoes and put boots on. If I am writing you have to get your crayons and write. If I am cleaning you have to be cleaning.
You love to cuddle on the couch. You started climbing on all furniture. You will get on the couch and say mommy sit.
You love to make forts with daddy.
You love to hide in the pantry and wait for us to ask “Where is Laney?”
You have been a bad eater this month. You eat lunch at daycare, but eat only fruit, yogurt, and veggie corndogs for dinner. You especially love apples this month.
You had strep throat for the first time.
You love to dance!! You were a star at your Christmas show. Daddy will put his music on in the family room and you break it down.

What a Weekend!

Christmas parties, Christmas shopping, and an exciting Hoosier victory. We had 3 Christmas parties to go to this weekend; Thursday night at the York County Bar Association (Miss Heather baby-sat), Friday night the Junior League Christmas Party (Miss Kailey baby-sat), and then Saturday was a tacky Christmas party at our friends house (Laney attended this party). In addition to our parties, IU played number 1 Kentucky in basketball. After a very exciting game, the Hoosiers pulled out a victory. Laney and I also tried to finish up our Christmas shopping. It was a busy but fun holiday weekend.

It was fun to get dressed up and have a night on the town.

St. Nick’s Day and Mr. Elf

We celebrated St. Nick’s Day at home and school when I was growing up. While no one in South Carolina seems to celebrate this day, I wanted to continue the tradition with Laney. Last night Laney picked which shoe she wanted to leave by her door. She picked her brown boots. When she woke up this morning we went to see what St. Nick had left for her. She found an Elmo toothbrush, Mots Tots gummies (her favorite), and color tablets to put in the bathtub.

We also introduced Elf on the Shelf to Laney. Although she does not understand him yet she enjoyed playing with Mr. Elf. We decided we would wait to name him next year, when Laney understands. So for now he will remain Mr. Elf.

Christmas Tree and Santa

Yesterday we headed out to find the Bathrick Family Christmas tree and visit Santa. After we picked the perfect tree, we took a hay ride to the barn. There were farm animals and Santa waiting for us in the barn. We were not quite sure how Laney would react to Santa. Well, Laney walked right up to Santa and sat in his lap and talked with him. I think she would have sat there all day long. She enjoyed the hayride, the animals, Santa, but most of all running through all the trees. When we returned home Laney helped carry the tree in and decorate it.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Laney’s daycare holds parent teacher conferences twice a year. I had my conference this past Monday. I have to say it was very strange to be on the other side of the conference. I wanted to record the things Laney’s teacher had to say about her and her progress.

Laney is the classroom helper. She loves to help clean and help the other children.
Laney loves to reenact things the other children do. She also mimics the teachers and what they do.
Laney LOVES (as we know) to play with her babies. She has one particular baby that she prefers to play with. When another child has that baby, Laney gets a little upset.
Laney always has to be in on the action. They are trying to get her to focus in on what she is doing and not be so distracted/concerned by the other students. (Laney is going to be the student one day that the teacher has to constantly tell to mind her own business).
BEST NEWS!! Now that Laney is able to express herself with words they have not seen any biting or tantrums in a while.

Day 29 and 30

Day 29: I am thankful for the beautiful South Carolina weather. The mornings start pretty chilly, but by the afternoon we are enjoying sunshine and high 50’s to low 60’s. After surviving through over 2o years of Indiana winters, this weather is such a treat.

Day 30: I am thankful for our support system in Rock Hill and Fort Mill. Since we do not have family any where near us, we have to rely on friends and co-workers to help us out at times. Tyler and I are blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is always a very busy day for the Bathricks. It is filled with 3 houses which means different 3 meals. Laney seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by it all at first and was pretty crabby. After a nap she was more in the Thanksgiving spirit. She partied with her new friend B until 10:30. They ran, read, played the piano, danced, and played with stuffed animals.

Thankfulness Day 23-28

Day 23: I am thankful for safe travels. While driving we did have our challenges, but we arrived to South Bend safely and made it back to South Carolina safely.

Day 24: I am thankful for holiday traditions. While in the midst of the holidays, sometimes I get caught up in the craziness of it all (since we always have 3 thanksgivings to go to). I don’t always stop to think about how lucky we are. I am so thankful that we have so many family members and friends to spend the holidays with. It means so much more to have Laney be a part of our family traditions.

This is right before bed on Thanksgiving night. Can you tell Laney is worn out? She is a hot mess.

Day 25: I am thankful for Black Friday. This is a day where Colleen and I get to shop together and try to find some great deals. I purchased a few things for me and Laney. Then we had a great lunch. Fun sister bonding.

Day 26: I am thankful for breadsticks and cheese. When I was at IU, my roommates and I had a ritual of ordering breadsticks and cheese and watching the bachelor. Oh how I missed those breadsticks when I moved to South Carolina. Last year the pizza place that serves the breadsticks moved to South Bend. I try to get them at least twice when I am home.

Day 27: I am thankful for baby wipes. On our drive home yesterday, Laney got car sick twice. It was a mess. Had it not been for the baby wipes I don’t know what we would have done.

Day 28: I am thankful for my bed. There is nothing like sleeping in your own bed. After 5 nights of sleeping in different beds, it was calling my name last night. I have to say it was the best night sleep I have had in awhile.

Day 22

I am thankful for days off. While today I was off because Laney was sick, it was still a wonderful day with my little miss. I am so thankful that Tyler and I have Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off, so we can travel to South Bend to spend Thanksgiving with our family. In a few hours the car will be packed with our bags and the dogs and we will embark on another 12 hour drive home. I can’t wait!

I am thankful for my teaching partner Heather. This is our third year team teaching and I don’t know what I would do without her. I can always count on her to help make plans, remind me of important things I forgot, be there to listen as I tell a story about Laney/Tyler, complain, or laugh about all the things our students do. A perfect example; Laney is sick with strep throat and I will not be at school tomorrow. So I don’t have to go in to do sub plans, she is taking care of everything for me.

I am thankful for fall. While it is slowly coming to an end, we have enjoyed it. Fall means football, leaves changing colors, our anniversary, and wonderful South Carolina weather. Even on days like today, when the Bathricks spent their day raking leaves that had fallen, I am still so thankful for my favorite season.

Day 19

I am thankful for Perfect Saturdays. My Saturday started with breakfast with friends. Then I headed home to start cooking our pre Thanksgiving Thanksgiving meal. I cooked and then Laney and I decorated the house for Christmas. Laney enjoyed destroying the decoration more than helping me set things out. We sat down as our family of 3 for our wonderful dinner. After Laney went to bed, Tyler and I ended our day with a movie and the peppermint chocolate chip milkshakes from Chick-fil-la. Yum Yum!

Day 18

I am thankful for Fridays. They are jeans day at my school and of course mark the start of the weekend. I get to leave school a little earlier on Fridays which means more time with sweet Laney. Each Friday morning I wake up so energized knowing that if I make it a few hours then it will be the weekend. I LOVE FRIDAYS!!

Counting our Blessings!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, November is a month to count our blessings. Several friends on facebook and blogs have been doing a countdown. They are listing a new thing they are thankful for each day. I read these daily and thought of the many things I have to be thankful for. Events in the last two days have inspired me to create a list of my own. I will start with day one; November 1st through today and then continue on for the rest of the month.

Day 1: My best friend and husband-Tyler. He has been there for me for through the good and the bad. I can always count on his support, love, laughter, and his wonderful dimpled smile (which luckily Laney inherited). While he is a wonderful husband, he is an even better father. My heart melts each time I see him with Laney.

Day 2: My little miss Laney. I find it amazing each day how much I love this little girl. Each day my love grows stronger and stronger. Every new word and smile and I melt. I am so thankful, God chose me to be her mother.

Day 3: My Parents (all four of them) I was not only blessed with a mom and dad but also a step-mom and step-dad. The 4 of them working together helped shape me and my siblings into the people we are today.

Day 4: My faith- I thankful that Tyler and I are raising our daughter in the Catholic faith we were raised in. God has blessed us in so many ways. We are so thankful for him and his unconditional love. I love that Laney chooses her, Baby’s First Bible, as her book to read before bed each night.

Day 5: My Health- This past September was 10 years since my last chemo treatment. Each and every day I think about Dr. Hock and all the nurses who helped me through the difficult and challenging year of chemo.

Day 6: My siblings- I have been blessed with the best sisters and brothers anyone could ask for. My sister Colleen is my best friend. We talk several times a day and she is always there for me. Shelby, while I have not been around as she has grown up, I know she is going to be a great aunt and role model for Laney. My brothers Eric and Coley add fun and a bit of competitiveness to our family. I love that we are all so close, and look forward to the holidays when we can all be together.

Day 7: Tyler’s family- I am lucky to have married into a wonderful and loving family. Laney has loving grandparents and two awesome uncles.

Day 8: My grandparents and aunts/uncles: I am lucky to come from a family where my extended family acts like immediate family. They are supportive in so many ways. I am so happy that they are not only a part of my life but also Laney’s.

Day 9: My School- Sugar Creek- Not many people can say they love their jobs. I enjoy getting up and going to work at a place where everyone supports one another and enjoys what they do.

Day 10: Rock Hill- Rock Hill isn’t South Bend but it has definitely become home for the Bathrick Family. It is a nice small town and a perfect place to raise a family. We are also so fortunate to have found a great group of friends in Rock Hill.

Day 11: Laney’s Daycare- We count our blessings everyday that Laney goes to a daycare where she is loved and cared for. They engage her with so many activities and new learning experiences everyday.

Day 12: Hoosier and Barkley: They bring such joy, love, and frustration to our lives. They are a part of the family and it would not be the same without them.

Day 13: Friends- Tyler and I have been blessed to have friends from various stages in our life. We are so thankful for all of them. I especially love the friends who have children, new friends for Laney.

Day 14: Mother/Daughter Relationships- I have been playing catch up on the show Parenthood. On a recent episode they said the following quote “The problem with mothers is that they have daughters.” While this quote is funny, I have not found this to be my experience with my mom and hope that it is not my experience with Laney. My mom is always there for me. I can always count on her love and support. I appreciate the relationship we have even more now that I have a daughter. I am so excited for the relationship that Laney and I are building. I know we have lots of fun times ahead.

Day 15: My Favorite Things- these are the little things that make me smile; coke and cherry coke (they get me through my morning), country music, a hot bath with a book, gossip magazines, M&M’s (plain and peanut), warm fuzzy socks, hot chocolate, ice cream, jean days at school, a good smelling candle burning, taking pictures of miss Laney, and my weekend mornings where I get to sleep in.

Day 16: Our Family’s Safety: A storm and tornado hit Rock Hill Wednesday night. Several people were killed and many houses were destroyed. Laney and I sat in the bathroom for an hour watching Barney while the tornado sirens rang. We were the lucky ones who had no damage. My thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected by this storm.

Day 17: Our House and God’s Blessings: Today on my way home I really needed to stop for gas but instead was lazy and decided I would let Tyler deal with it when he took the car tomorrow. When I arrived home and opened the door I immediately smelled smoke. When I walked in, I was shocked to see a fire on our stove. Barkley put her paws on the counter looking for food and managed to move papers near the stove. Then at some point as she was on the counter she turned on the stove. This started the fire. When I walked into the house there were a pile of papers burning. We are so lucky that I came home when I did. Much later and I am afraid to think what would have happened. I was able to clean everything up. Thankfully there was no damage. I am thankful we have our house. It is homey, warm, and my favorite place to be. Side Note * Barkley will no longer be allowed to be locked in the kitchen*

Spectacular Sunday

It was such a wonderful Sunday. Laney and I started our day with shopping. We went to the Southern Christmas Show with Brittany and MJ. The girls were so good for the 3 hours we were shopping. I picked up a few Christmas presents while we were there. Then we returned home for a Sunday evening of sports. We didn’t get the Bears game on TV, so we listened to it on the radio while we watched the IU basketball game. We enjoyed some pizza for dinner and then Laney and I made brownies for my class. I hate when the weekends come to an end, but we enjoy them while they last.

Happy Nineteen Months Laney! Daddy and I took you to the park today to feed the ducks. I am just amazed at how the simple things in life, like seeing a duck or dog, make you so happy. You ran toward the ducks while squealing with excitement. As your mommy, I love to see life through your eyes. You really are turning into your own little person. You understand so much more and can do so many new things.

Eighteen to Nineteen Month Stats:

Some 18 month but mostly 24 month clothes.
Words: NO! I titled this blog no nineteen because that has to be your favorite word this month. Other words; stinky, oh no, shoe, Hoosier (in your own way), Barney/Barkley (she says BoBo for both), one more, truck, Laney, Tracie (yes you say mommy’s name), mine, sock, read, thank you.
Your favorite thing to do this month: Whatever mommy or daddy are doing. This can be any of the following things; cleaning the kitchen, cooking dinner, putting on make-up, brushing our teeth, or looking at blogs/facebook. You are my little shadow.
You love love love your babies. You are always taking care of them. You also love love love to clean. You want to help unload the dishwasher, clean the floors, wipe the tables, and clean your high chair.
You still are a great sleeper, especially on weekends. Yay!!
While my toddler book says you are mix between a spirited and easy toddler, I think you lean more towards the spirited side. Your temper tantrums have gotten better as you learn more words. Although you still like things to be Laney’s way which often conflicts with mommy’s way.
You love to go to the park and be outside. We have been going at least one day a week after daycare. You have become a master of the slide. You will go down it all by yourself.

Last Friday night was the carnival at my school that we call our luau. It was hard to contain Laney. She wanted to run and run some more. Which would have been ok, had it not been for the groups of people, crazy students, and a mini golf course in the middle of everything. She had a good time and my students enjoyed getting to see her.

Hoosier: Our First Baby

Hoosier has been a part of our family for 5 years now. She is a loyal dog with a big heart and a lot of energy. Several months ago we noticed a growth on Hoosier’s mammary gland. After watching it for several weeks, the vet decided we needed to get it removed. Last Tuesday, Hoosier went in for surgery. Yesterday the vet called us with the results. Hoosier has a cancerous mammary gland tumor. However, they think they got everything. The diagnoses is the best it can be. Now we just keep an eye on her. I thought as our first baby, Hoosier deserved her own blog entry. We love you Hoosier!

Last Saturday we took Laney to Discovery Place Kids Museum. It has everything a child could possibly want; Water play, music, pretend vehicles (boat, race car, airplane, fire truck, ambulance, sub, and ship). They had pretend rooms (vet, doctor, farm, restaurant, ocean, airport, and grocery store). Laney had a great time going from one place to the next. She even got on the stage and danced. We can’t wait to take her back.

Laney and I had a great week. We enjoyed the warm Carolina weather and got ready for Halloween.

Monday: We met Campbell and Maggie at the park.

They enjoyed picking the wood chips up together and putting them in the swing.

Tuesday: We went to McTeacher night for my school. Laney enjoyed chicken nuggets, sitting with Lucy (15 month old daughter of another teacher), and meeting the students at my school.

Wednesday: We made cut-out cookies. Laney’s favorite part was helping mix the batter. She helped a little with cutting out the shapes, but mostly wanted to roll the dough with the rolling pin. Which she later threw across the room when I told her we were done and it was time to clean up.

Thursday: We frosted our cut-out Halloween cookies.

Laney LOVES to clean. She spent about 20 minutes this morning cleaning the kitchen floors with our broom, a mop, and my duster. She also loves to wipes the floors, her high chair, and tables with paper towels. I’ve already decided one of her Christmas present will be a child broom.

We traveled to Georgia this weekend to enjoy the wonderful fall weather. We stayed super busy. We hiked up to Brasstown Bald to look at the fall leaves. Laney enjoyed the hike and the nature center. Then we headed to the small town of Helen for Octoberfest! Fun was had by all. On Sunday, Laney started her day with a walk with Tyler, Grandma Syl, and the 4 dogs. Then on Sunday we were off to our second visit to a pumpkin patch. Laney walked through a corn maze, played on the playground, fed farm animals, and went for a hayride. We ended our day with yummy BBQ at Oinkers. Since it is getting colder, it is time to close up the lake house for the winter. We are sad we will not be back to the lake house until March/April.

Laney’s First Boo Boo

Laney has gotten some bumps, bruises, and scratches before, but today Laney got her first real boo boo. When I arrived at daycare to pick her up, I noticed Miss Teff filling out an incident report and I saw Laney’s name on it. At first I cringed thinking she bit another child, but instead it was for a bump she got on her forehead. She was running on the playground and fell on the cement.

Fun Filled Weekend Part 2

Sunday morning Tyler made us a breakfast of champions and then we headed to the zoo for part 2 of our wonderful weekend. We have been to the zoo a number of times with Laney, but this trip was the best. She loved all the animals. When we would leave one animal exhibit she would say “more, more.” We walked to the botanical gardens at the zoo and she absolutely loved the play house, big chair, and play ground. The one thing she would not do was ride the carousel. After the zoo, Tyler got a haircut and we went shopping at Target. Then Tyler and I cooked a wonderful steak dinner for a belated anniversary dinner. Now we are cheering on the Bears! I am so thankful for the 2 loves in my life. Tyler and Laney make my world a better place. Today was such a great day!

Fun Filled Weekend Part 1

It was the perfect family weekend. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed every minute of it. We started our Saturday at our friends house to watch the Carolina/Mississippi St. game. It was a great time with friends and cheering on the gamecocks. Then we headed to the pumpkin patch. Laney loved the pumpkins. She would pick one up, carry it, drop it, and then get another one. Laney petted the horses, fed the goats and sheep, drove the tractor, went on a hayride, went through a child corn maze, and picked the perfect pumpkin for herself. She also loved to sit on all the pumpkins.

Laney has started talking more and more everyday. It has to be the sweetest thing I have ever heard. Yesterday when we were in the car headed to the doctor, Laney was saying the word truck. We probably saw at least 10 trucks pass by and every time Laney would say truck-truck. When they would drive away she would say bye-bye. Her little voice just makes my heart melt.

For my bridal shower, Tyler’s mom gave me a sign that says “Happiness is being married to your best friend.” This sign hangs up in our bedroom because it is so true. 3 years ago today, I married my best friend. Our three years have been filled with lots of love and laughter. I cannot imagine my life without Tyler, he makes my world a happy place. While I wish I could blog about the sweet and romantic celebration we have planned, we are taking turns watching our sick little miss. She is home from daycare with Herpangina (mouth sores and fever). While I have a conference to go to, my wonderful husband is working from home for most of the day to take care of sweet Laney. I have said it before, but Laney and I are two lucky girls.

The Grandmas Come to Visit

A week ago this past Friday my mom and grandma came for a visit. They spent their 5 days playing with and spoiling Laney. They watched Laney on Saturday, while Tyler and I headed to the Carolina vs. Auburn game. The rest of the days we packed in a few shopping trips and a lot of play time. It was great to have Grandma Annette and Great-Grandma Clifford visit.

Everywhere Eighteen

Happy Eighteen Months Laney! I continue to be amazed at the new things you learn to do and say on a daily basis. Your brain is a sponge these days. You are mommy’s little helper and love to play. However, your toddler behavior this month made mommy go buy a book about toddlers and tantrums.

Seventeen to Eighteen Month Stats:

Height: 32 1/4 inches: 75th percentile
Weight: 26 lbs.: 75th percentile
You are still in 18 month clothes and a few 24 months.
Words: It was like a switch went off with your language in the last week. All of a sudden you are repeating many of the words daddy and I say. You repeat lots of words, but ones you say more often are; car, bow, duck, coat, quack, hi, please, what’s that, all done, and all gone.
You love to clean; you help sweep the floors, clean your high chair, unload the dishwasher, and wipe the floors.
You love to play outside; walking, riding in your car, collecting treasures.
You continue to be an excellent sleeper. Daddy and I love that you have been sleeping until 9-9:30 on the weekends.
You love to play; puzzles, play dough, draw, in your kitchen, and especially take care of your babies (at home and daycare).
You love to dance!
You are very moody. Sometimes we have happy playful Laney and other timed frustrated, tired, and tantrum Laney.

You have been sick all weekend, which means you are not your normal energetic, happy little self. Instead you are lifeless and just want to cuddle. My heart breaks to see you look so sick. Tonight you woke up screaming (which you never do) and so I went up stairs and rocked you. It was in that moment that I got teary eyed. You are growing up before my eyes. I know the days of rocking you while you cuddle up in my arms will not last forever. It is the little things like rocking you to sleep that I will cherish forever. You are such an angel and I am so thankful that I get to be your mommy. I love you!

Although they didn’t win, we did out best to cheer on the Bears. Since we don’t ever get Bears games in SC, we have to go to a restaurant or bar. We headed to Wild Wings for some lunch and football.

Happy Seventeen Months Laney! When I was pregnant with you, I prayed you were a healthy baby, but I also prayed that you were spunky and outgoing and not shy like mommy. WOW! Did I ever get my wish. You are a spunky independent girl with a bit of stubbornness (I think you get that from daddy). We love every ounce of your cute personality and spirit, you keep us laughing.

Sixteen to Seventeen Month Stats:

You are still in 18 month clothes.
Words: You have not added may new words this month. In addition to bye bye, hot, dog, ball, up, hot, daddy, hi, baby, you can say sit, down, and MOMMY (you finally say mommy on a regular basis now).
You have grown tall enough that you can now reach the door handles and open them.
You like Shrek. Daddy bought you all the Shrek videos right after you were born. You and daddy enjoyed watching all four videos throughout the last month. You know all the characters on the DVD case. You like to carry the case around the house.
You point your finger and tell the dogs to sit.
You will walk nicely holding mommy and daddy’s hands instead of just running wild.
You are good at following directions. You will clean up your toys. If I ask you to get something you will get it.

Tyler’s parents got a new puppy last week, and it made the trip to South Carolina. Laney and Bogey have a love hate relationship. She loves him when she can pet him, but hates him when he takes her toys. Laney enjoyed getting to spend time with her “puppy” as Tyler kept calling him.

Saturday marked the first day of the Carolina football season. The Bathrick family was ready to cheer on the Gamecocks. Thanks to Grandma Syl, Tyler and I were able to tailgate with friends and attend the game toddler free. It was a great day with friends. While we were a bit worried during the first quarter, the Gamecocks pulled out a victory in the end.

We made it 2 1/2 weeks into my school year before Laney got sick. I had to take the day off today because Laney had a temperature. Last year I used every one of my sick days due to Laney’s constant ear infections. I am hoping this year is a better year, but we are not off to a great start. I treasure any extra day I get to spend with my little miss. When Laney is sick she is extra cuddly, which I love. We had lots of cuddle time. Even though Laney was not going anywhere, I still wanted to get her ready to cheer on the Irish. She wore “the shirt” for 2011 as we played, cleaned, and watched some Barney. (thank you to great-grandma Clifford for the shirt).

*Don’t worry Carolina fans, she will be wearing her gamecock dress tomorrow.

Stinky Feet!

Since Laney was a baby we have played the stinky feet game. I would smell her sweet baby feet and say “you have stinky feet” and she would laugh and laugh. I think I might have cursed her by playing this game. In the last few weeks I have realized that Laney has by far the smelliest feet I have ever smelled. When we get home from daycare and I take off her shoes, the smell takes over the whole room. In her bath, I will scrub them and that does not even do the trick. We might have to outlaw wearing sandals without socks. My poor little miss.

Battle of the Shoes!

Most mornings Laney is still asleep or has just woken up when I leave for school. I pick out her clothes but Tyler is the one who gets Laney ready. Wednesday morning Tyler had gotten Laney dressed and was looking for the shoes she usually wears to daycare (pink crocs). He could not find them, so instead grabbed her white Stride Rite shoes (she gets messy at daycare so we usually do not wear these there). Laney sees the white Stride Rite shoes, then in the meantime Tyler finds her pink crocs and tries to put them on Laney. Laney refuses, throws the shoes, falls to the ground crying, and points to the white shoes. Tyler tries again to put on the pink crocs and Laney will not have it. Laney walks over to the white Stride Rite shoes, brings them to Tyler and sits on his lap. So Laney and the white Stride Rite shoes win the battle over the shoes. Lazy Weekend

After my first full week of school, a lazy weekend is just what I needed. On Saturday we played all morning and then got ready and headed to Charlotte for dinner. We went to Cantina Fifteen Eleven, where Laney had her first taste of guacamole and she loved it. Sunday will involve some cleaning, grocery shopping, but mostly playing with little miss. I love weekends like this.

Supper Club

Tyler and I are in a supper club with 4 of our couple friends that meets every other Thursday. It was our turn to host tonight. We made salad, breadsticks, penne a la vodka with chicken and sausage, and Mississippi Mud Cake for dessert. It was great to spend the evening with friends.

Aunt Jen Visits

This past weekend we were lucky to have Aunt Jen visit for the day. While Jen was in Charlotte for her job she was able to spend time with us. Laney enjoyed playing kitchen with her.

Laney’s First Haircut

I decided it was about time to finally get Laney’s haircut. We went to Clipper Doodles in Fort Mill this afternoon. Laney did great. She didn’t crack a smile but she didn’t cry either. She sat in her car/chair and turned the steering wheel while she got her hair cut.

Last weekend we traveled to the North Carolina zoo. This was the first zoo trip where Laney was not interested in the animals. All she wanted to do was run everywhere.

First Week of School

This was the first week of school for Laney in her new classroom and my first week back to school. Laney seems to enjoy her new room. There is so much more space and many new toys to play with. Everyday when we pick her up she is flushed and sweaty from running/playing so hard. In her new room they sleep on cots instead of in cribs. Laney has been doing a good job, but she is only sleeping about an hour a day. So when you take a toddler who plays hard all day long and only sleeps an hour this is what you get when you get home…

After a few crying spells she ate, took a bath, cuddled with mommy and was in bed by 5:30. She was one tired girl. I am so excited it is the weekend and we will be able to spend quality time together.

Last Day as a Roly Poly

Yesterday was Laney’s last day as a Roly Poly in the infant/toddler room with Miss Kathy and Miss Tricia. They hosted a little party for their last day. Laney enjoyed her treat of cupcakes, angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. It was very sad leaving her room for the last time. I know Laney does not understand what is happening, but the test will come Monday morning when she enters into her new classroom with Miss Kayla, and has to walk by Miss Kathy. I did not think that I would be so emotional about her transition. I am very sad to have to say good-bye to these two wonderful ladies who not only helped Laney learn and grow but also helped us as first time parents.

The Summer of Mommy and Laney comes to an end :(

Tomorrow marks the first day all teachers have to report back to school. I cannot believe how quickly the summer flew by. I cherished each and every moment I was able to spend with Laney. While I do have some excitement about a new school year, a freshly cleaned and organized classroom, and a new group of students, I am mostly sad. Laney is turning into such a little lady with a big personality, and I hate to miss a minute of her growing up. I have enjoyed getting to see all the new things she learns on a daily basis. I love getting to spend our morning time together (we read, cook breakfast, watch some Barney, play in her room, take naps, and only when we are ready do we get out of our jammies). We enjoyed pool time, play dates, shopping trips, and lots of play time. I know Laney will enjoy getting to be back with her friends. I will try my hardest not to think of all the things I am missing but rather be so excited for the moment I get to pick her up from daycare.

I just love this little girl so much!! Thank you for a wonderful summer Laney.

Masters Graduation

Today we drove to Columbia for my Masters school graduation. It was nice to graduate with my fellow classmates I have spent the last year with. While a memorable moment for me, it was an exhausting moment for Tyler. He had the job of keeping Laney entertained/chasing after her. I am very thankful for Tyler. If he had not been there to watch and care for Laney all those weekends I had class, or the week nights I had papers to write, I could not have done this.

It was a celebration for the whole family: I am finally done and get a pay raise!!!!

Super Sixteen

Happy Sixteen Months Laney! You continue to smile, laugh, and always have a good time. However your attitude and temper tantrums sometimes get in the way of our fun times. You are very determined to do everything by yourself. When daddy and I need/try to help, you go to temper tantrum mode. It is obvious that you take daddy much more serious than mommy. If I tell you no, you often smile and laugh and continue what you are doing. If daddy tells you no, you automatically start to cry.

Fifteen to Sixteen Month Stats:

18 Month clothes
Words: You have not added may new words this month. In addition to bye bye, hot, dog, up, hot, daddy, and hi you now say baby.
When you wake up from a nap, you like to take your time to wake up. You will often sit in your crib for 10-30 minutes playing with you rabbit and talking. When you are ready to get out you stand up, throw your paci and rabbit out of your crib, and cry.
You love to play with the dogs and pretend you are a dog. You like to crawl on the ground, play in the dog’s water, you tried dog food this month, you love to go on the dog beds, and you even climbed into the dog cage this month.
You still love fruit, but you went from loving blueberries to grapes and cherries.
This month you were not a very good eater. There were many days all you would eat was fruit.
If you chose to eat you enjoy most breakfast foods and continue to love veggie corn dogs.
You are an awesome sleeper. You usually sleep until at least 7:30 in the morning, and will take good naps in the afternoon.
You love going in the pool and lake. This month we took 2 trips to Georgia and one to the pool.
You spent a lot of time home with mommy this summer. You love to play with your kitchen and your favorite activity continues to be reading books.
You eat much better with a spoon and even started using a fork.

Parent Orientation

Today is Parent Orientation at Laney’s daycare. We get to officially meet her new teachers, Miss Kayla and Miss Tiffany. This is a very bittersweet moment, as it means we have to say goodbye to Miss Kathy and Miss Tricia. There are not enough words to say how thankful we are for these two wonderful ladies. They have loved and cared for Laney this past year, and Laney just loves them both so much. Tyler and I are so grateful they are a part of Laney’s life. While we will still pass by their room every morning, it will not be the same.

Today Laney was very upset with me when I took her paci (she knows when she wakes up the paci goes in her crib)and put it in her crib.

After a few minutes, she made her way to me and sat on my lap, and then everything was ok.

As Laney is practicing using a fork and spoon she makes a huge mess. I made my way to IKEA for their awesome bibs (a must have) that look like an art smock. They do a great job of keeping her clothes clean. Now to just get Laney to understand to use her fork and spoon and not her hands, especially when eating yogurt.

I was completing my Junior League shifts at the consignment shop this past Friday, and I spotted a deal I could not refuse. I have been looking for a table and chair set for Laney. I found one for $15.00, now I just have to fix it up a bit. After pictures soon to follow.

Another Georgia Weekend

We kept very busy this weekend, as we celebrated Tyler’s birthday. We started very early Saturday morning with a trip to the Northern Georgia Mountain Fair. We shopped at some booths (I bought some cute bows at a great price), toured a log cabin, and watched a water ski show. We wanted to take Laney on rides but they did not open till later. We went back to the house, ate lunch, and then headed to the boat and swimming. Then we headed to the Dillard House for Tyler’s birthday dinner. The Dillard House was set in the Georgia Mountains and had the best southern food. There was also a Farm Zoo located near the Dillard House, so Laney got to see goats and other animals. On Sunday we woke up early to head out for a nice hike. It was a great family weekend.

This past Wednesday, Tyler celebrated his 30th birthday. We headed up to the Georgia lake house this weekend for a celebration. We are so thankful for all you do for our family. You are the best daddy and husband ever. We are two lucky girls! We love you!

Under Attack

Sunday morning Laney I headed to Winthrop lake/park to feed the ducks before it was too hot to go outside. There was no one at the park and when the ducks saw us coming they made their way across the lake. They were very excited to see bread and were fighting each other (in the water) as Laney and I threw bread their way. Then the moment came when we ran out of bread. Laney and I were under attack. The ducks made their way out of the water and surrounded us and our stroller. (I panicked a little) Laney and I were running away as a group of ducks were chasing us. It took about 5 minutes for them to realize we were out of food. Then we were able to enjoy ourselves again. Laney loved looking at the ducks. We even saw a few turtles swimming in the lake. All in all is was a great Sunday morning with my little miss.

After a year of spending most of my weekends in a classroom, and many week nights writing papers and reading I am done. YAY!!! After graduation on August 7th, I will officially have my Masters degree in education. While there were times it was very hard to balance being a wife, mother, housewife, teacher, and student, it was well worth it.

Lately, Laney seems to be a little obsessed with her diaper. She tries to take it off if she is not wearing pants. She will pull all her diapers out of the baskets and carry them around. She will bring us a diaper and wipes. This week she started trying to put the diaper on by herself.

Myrtle Beach

After teaching summer school Monday-Wednesday, Laney and I packed up the car and headed to Myrtle Beach Thursday to visit my dear friend Lindsey and her family. It was such a great visit. Laney and her son Will, played so well together. They became buds. As we were shopping, one of them would scream, then the other would scream, it was a little game they were playing (I am sure all the customers appreciated it). We can’t wait for our next visit with the Pritchards.

It was another fun filled family day at the zoo. I love watching how Laney’s responses to the animals change each time we go. This time Laney loved feeding the giraffe, petting the cow, and looking at the fish. She seemed to be a little frightened of the gorilla, especially when he moved, as well as the birds.

Happy Fifteen Months Laney! You are a happy, smiling, laughing, funny, and independent girl! You are such a sponge these days and have learned so many new things this month.

Fifteen Month Stats:

Weight: 24 lbs
Height: 30 inches
You say the words; ball, up, dog, hot , bye bye, hi, and daddy. While these words are great the most important word-mommy is still not on this list.
You still have your own language that you love to talk in. I love to sit and listen to you talk, it always makes me smile.
You shake your head for yes and no. If we ask you if you want to go or are done you will let us know.
You point to your mouth when you want to eat or drink.
You can moo like a cow
You love to play with your purse, especially the lipstick. You will apply it to your lips and mommy’s.
You start to take off your clothes when you hear the shower running or we ask you if you want to take a bath.
When you are ready to leave somewhere you will wave bye bye. When we flew home to South Bend, you waved bye-bye on the airplane for about ten minutes.
On several occasions you will get your diaper and wipes and lay on the ground to be changed.
When you wake up from a nap, you will throw your paci and rabbit back in the crib. You know you cannot leave your room with them.
You learned how to turn the TV on and off.
You put your hand up to your ear when you are tired.
You learned to take off you diaper. Pants are a must, at all times.
You learned how to open the dogs’ cage and let them out.
You love to give the dogs treats.
You love to get out your clothes and try to put them on.
You know where your head, eyes, ears, nose, and mouth are. You can point to them on yourself, a stuffed animal, or mommy and daddy.
Are still in love with Barney.
You love to dance- if mommy does not have the music on in the kitchen you will press your farm fridge (which sings Old McDonald and Farmer in the Dell) and will dance.
You still love to sing your songs and act out the motions (If You’re Happy and you Know It, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Flying in an Airplane, Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, and The Wheels on the Bus)
Waving hi and bye to people always makes you smile.
You love to take all the pillows off the couch, put them on the floor and then lay on them.
You are sleeping great. You take 2 naps a day usually for about 1-2 hours and then sleep until 7-8 in the morning.
You continue to love fruit; blueberries are your absolute favorite this month.
For a short time this month you were afraid of grass. While you love to take baths, you have not been fond of water if its on the ground, in a pool, ocean, or lake.
You are a wild woman and run run run.
Your energy level is amazing. By the end of the day daddy and I are exhausted.

Goats on the Roof

In Clayton, GA there is a place called Goats on the Roof, where the whole gimmick is that they actually have goats on the roof and a bunch of other tourist type stuff. Laney, Grandma Syl, and I took a visit and Laney loved it. She walked around every where, and loved pointing at the goats.

Laney found a tub full of goat stuffed animals. Grandma Syl bought her one, we named it Hickory after one of the goats Laney was able to pet.

It was another wonderful 4th of July on the lake in Georgia. We spent lots of time on the boat and swimming. Laney enjoyed the water and the boat rides more this trip than on Memorial Day.

My Gym

My Gym is a place for toddlers where they can run, jump, climb, and play. They hold a class where part of it is singing, dancing, and the other is working with the equipment. I will leave you with the pictures, and you will be able to tell what Laney liked and what Laney did not like.

Very Concerned: This was before class started.

Liked: Animal play time

Did not like: Rolling on the equipment

Kinda Liked: The ball pit (however this was her third time in it and it was not until a boy started handing her the balls that she would tolerate it).

Absolutely HATED: The balance beam

Loved: The stamps she got on her hands at the end of the class.
